Sassanian Nobility in Naqsh Rustam

Naqsh-e Rustam (Persian: نقش رستم‎ Naqš-e Rostam) also referred to as Necropolis is an archaeological site located about 12 km northwest of Persepolis, in Fars province, Iran. Naqsh-e Rustam lies a few hundred meters from Naqsh-e Rajab.

An statue with similar outfit can be seen here [3]. Nobles carved in Naghsh Rustam look similar to the image on this dish as well.










Colorful Sassanian Vase With Fresco From Merv


Unveiled woman on a Sassanian painted clay vase.
Probably 5th century AD.

The role of women in Sassanid period has never been fully studied. However, this colorful vase perhaps tells a story of the family that owned it. The image on the vase depicts a beautiful fresco. The item was excavated from the Buddhist Stupa, Merv.


Possibly a Small Sassanian Statue

Possibly originated in the vessel states of Sassanid Persia.
Both Roman and Sassanid influence is visible.

 .بالا تنه یکی از روحانیون یا بزرگان ساسانی. قرن سه و یا چهار میلادی این اثر احتمالا در مناطق زیر دست حکومت ساسانی ساخته شده است.   تاثیر فرهنگ رومی بر این مجسمه مشهود است. تصویری شبیه همین مجسمه در یک ظرف کشف شده در گرجستان وجود دارد [4]. آرم گوشه کلاه احتمالا نشان از خاندان این فرد دارد. احتمالا در موزه مییهو در ژاپن نگهداری میشود

Shapur I was the second shah of the Sassanid Dynasty who ruled Persia from 240 to 270 A.D. He is noted for his victory over Romans and taking  Emperor Valerian as his captive.
